Arise O Lord (Based on Psalm 10)

Arise O Lord (Based on Psalm 10)

(Intro)

Why, O Lord, do You seem so far away?
Why do You hide in times of trouble and pain?
Yet still I call to You from the shadowed earth,
For You alone are righteous, and Your kingdom will endure.

(Verse 1)

The wicked, swollen with pride, hunt down the poor;
let them be caught in the schemes they have made.
They boast of every craving of their hearts,
and bless the greedy—those the Lord despises.
In their arrogance they do not seek Your face;
there is no room for God in all their thoughts.
Their ways bring grief, and Your judgments seem beyond their sight;
they sneer at every foe and say within themselves,
“We will not be shaken; no harm will ever come.”

(Pre-Chorus)

But You have seen the sorrow, You have marked the wound;
You hear the cry of the broken and the bowed-down soul.
So rise, O Lord, and let Your justice be revealed.

(Chorus)

Arise, O Lord, lift up Your hand;
do not forget the humble in the dust.
You are the shelter of the weak and poor,
the helper of the orphan and oppressed.
Arise, O Lord, let evil lose its strength;
Your kingdom stands for ever, just and true.

(Verse 2)

Their mouths are filled with curses, lies, and cruelty;
beneath their tongues lie trouble, fraud, and ruin.
They hide in secret places near the villages;
in ambush they strike down the innocent.
Like lions crouched within the dark,
they wait to seize the poor and drag them into nets.
They stoop low only to bring others down,
and say within their hearts, “God has forgotten;
He hides His face and does not see.”

(Chorus)

Arise, O Lord, lift up Your hand;
do not forget the humble in the dust.
You are the shelter of the weak and poor,
the helper of the orphan and oppressed.
Arise, O Lord, let evil lose its strength;
Your kingdom stands for ever, just and true.

(Verse 3)

Rise up, O Lord; O God, raise up Your hand.
Do not forget the helpless and the lowly.
Why do the wicked treat You with contempt,
and say within their hearts, “You will not call us to account”?
But You do see the grief and bitter harm;
You take it in Your hand to answer it.
The poor entrust themselves to You alone;
You have always been the defender of the fatherless.

(Chorus)

Arise, O Lord, lift up Your hand;
do not forget the humble in the dust.
You are the shelter of the weak and poor,
the helper of the orphan and oppressed.
Arise, O Lord, let evil lose its strength;
Your kingdom stands for ever, just and true.

(Verse 4)

Break the power of the wicked and the evil;
call their violence to account until it is no more.
The Lord is King for ever and ever;
the nations that defy Him fade from His land.
Lord, You have heard the longing of the humble;
You strengthen their hearts and bend Your ear to them.
You bring justice to the orphan and the oppressed,
so that those made of dust may terrify no more.

(Chorus)

Arise, O Lord, lift up Your hand;
do not forget the humble in the dust.
You are the shelter of the weak and poor,
the helper of the orphan and oppressed.
Arise, O Lord, let evil lose its strength;
Your kingdom stands for ever, just and true.

(Ending)

You have heard the cry of the humble, O Lord;
You will steady their hearts and answer them.
You will judge with mercy and with truth,
and oppression will not have the final word.
For You are near, though hidden for a moment,
and Your justice shall rise like morning over all the earth.
